The goal of aerobic exercise is to get your body moving. As you move around in your daily life, your body has adjusted to a particular heart rate and level of work. With aerobic exercise you simply want to cause your body to work harder than it usually does in order to increase your level of physical fitness. You will be pushing your body to the point of overload in order to see results, and as you continue to exercise your body will adapt to new levels of exertion, which means that you will have to keep increasing the intensity of your workout, the length of time that you are exercising, or how often you work out in order to continue to see gains.

Exercises such as running, walking, dancing, bicycling, cross-country skiing, swimming and rowing are all good ways to increase your body’s aerobic capacity.

You can do these exercises in the gym, or you can get outdoors and ride a bike or do cross-country skiing on a trail, or you can do some of these activities right in your own home. The idea is to get out and get your body moving.
