When it comes time to choose a gym membership you will want to first take a look at what your overall goals are. Someone who has been warned by their doctor that they need to lose weight will have different needs than someone who wants to shed a few pounds to fit into that bridesmaid gown, or from someone who has the goal of training to run a marathon.
You’ll want to make a list and narrow it down to ones that have convenient locations, and hours that meet your needs. After you have found at least three possible places you need to go and visit each one. When you arrive take a look around and see if you lie the environment. Is the place clean? Is the staff friendly? Is the locker room clean and big enough to handle peak crowds? Look at the equipment each facility has. Here’s where your goals come into play again. If you are training for a big race do they have enough treadmills? Ask about what classes they offer, and if they have any other related services and amenities such as free parking, child care, etc.
Finally, you’ll want to compare costs and the reputation of the different facilities before you make your final choice. Try to talk to existing members and get their review. Also find out if the club offers free passes so that you can actually go and try the place out before you plunk down your membership fee.
