Most women who were in good physical shape prior to pregnancy are eager to get back into their exercise routines once they have given birth to their baby. But there are certain considerations when it comes to resuming exercise after childbirth.
If a woman has maintained a regular exercise routine throughout her pregnancy and she has had an uneventful vaginal delivery, she can resume a light exercise schedule within a week of having given birth after seeking the advice of her doctor.
If a woman has had a complicated delivery, a c-section, or did not exercise at all prior to becoming pregnant, she will want to take it slow. A woman should allow at least six weeks after a c-section before she begins to exercise again. But as soon as she is given the all-clear from the doctor she should get back to exercising because this will help her body to heal from the surgery and strengthen those core muscles that may have gotten weak during pregnancy.
