You have maintained a faithful workout schedule for several months now and you are trimming down, looking and feeling great when the unthinkable happens, you get injured.

This is a time where you will need to work closely with your doctor to find out what exercises are OK to do, how much rest you will need in order to heal your injury and what adaptations you need to make.

The best advice for exercising while injured is to follow your doctor’s advice because while exercising can actually help the injury heal faster, it has to be done carefully and precisely to avoid re-injury.

If you are not in a cast, try doing exercises in the pool. Some gyms have upper extremity bikes where you pedal with your hands if your injury is to your lower body.

The main goal here is to keep your momentum. If you take too long of a break after an injury it can be very difficult to get back on track. Stay in contact with your doctor and remember that while rest is important moving will help your injury to heal faster.
