We know that exercise is good for us. We always feel better after we exercise, and we know that we will be plagued by guilt if we do not exercise, so why is exercise something that so many of us so commonly put off? Having strong motivation is the key to sticking with any new endeavor in life. So, if we know that we will feel better after we exercise, what motivation can we use to encourage ourselves to stick with it? In order for any new life changes to become permanent, we have to examine why we want this change. Why not just sit home on the couch and watch TV? Why not just drive to our favorite fast food spot and enjoy something fried? Why?
If you have looked in the mirror and decided that those, ‘love handles’ or ‘spare tire’ have got to go, or if your doctor has told you that if you do not lose some weight soon you are in danger of developing hypertension or diabetes, then that might be motivation enough. Each person must take it upon themselves to find that one thing that will get them to move their butt off the couch, put on their gym clothes and get to the gym.
