Keeping a fitness journal can not only be a great way to track your progress, but it can also be a motivator for you as you make progress towards your goals. When you begin a new fitness routine you should write out your goals, and then after every workout, or as you go along in your workout you should write down the length of your workout, weights, reps and sets. After a workout you should write some brief comments about how the workout went, your energy level, if you had any breakthroughs and things like that.
As you continue to keep track, over time you will begin to see a record of your progress. When you are not feeling very motivated to exercise, open your journal and flip back to a day when you went ahead and worked out despite how tired you were, and then how good you felt afterwards. Or maybe just looking at all of those entries themselves might be motivation enough to keep you on track.
