Anyone who has participated in an exercise regimen for any length of time soon learns a principal of physics called the law of diminishing returns. This simply means that if a person continues to do the same exercise routine over and over without varying or increasing the intensity or the length of time or the frequency, eventually the body will adapt to that routine. Weight loss halts, muscle development stagnates and the person may begin to feel discouraged.
The best way to stay motivated when you hit a slump is to mix up your routine. Try a new fitness DVD that contains more challenging routines. If you have been working out in the gym, take your workout outdoors. Ditch the treadmill and hit your local park’s walking trails.
Meeting new people who also enjoy working out and having fun might motivate you to exercise more. Join a walking club, or sign up for a new class at your gym. Another thing to try is to sign up for a session with a personal trainer.
Vary your routine, try new things, meet new workout buddies and before you know it you’ll be back on track with your fitness goals.
