Designing the Fitness Routine That is Right for You

Everyone wants to be in good shape. Maybe you have tried in the past. Maybe it didn’t work out, and you soon returned to your old, unhealthy habits. This is often the case for many. It does not have to be that way. By custom building your own exercise routine, anyone can get fit.

Take a realistic look at how much free time you have. The amount of free time you have to spend on exercising plays a big part in how successful you will be. If you don’t have much free time to spare already, chances are that it is going to be difficult to bring yourself to perform a strenuous activity for the majority of it. Choose activities that are feasible. Ideally, you want to plan exercise activities for moments when you have an excess of free time.

Pick a variety of exercises. There are many ways to work out. Keep your own exercise routine varied. Mixing things up on occasion prevents your muscles from being lulled into a routine. You will see greater benefits from your exercises if you aren’t simply doing the same one every day.

Push yourself just enough. It is important to test your limits. Do more sets and reps than you had planned on. Add more weight. Do a couple more crunches. The more you work out, the more you will need to do to keep improving. At the same time, you need to know when to stop. Try not to push yourself too hard. Continuing to press on when your body is completely strained and exhausted can end up doing you more harm than good. Don’t injure yourself.

Make sure that you are resting between sets. Breaking repetitions up into sets can help you get more from your workout. Wait half a minute or so between sets. Give your tired body some time to rest, but don’t let your muscles cool down completely before you get going again.

Keep track of your progress. Buy a journal to write in. This can just be a cheap, spiral bound note-book. Keep a record of how much exercise you did and look back for any improvements. If one of your aims is to lose weight, chart your weight loss. A fitness journal can be a great motivator. It can also help you notice trends in how you work out. Do you find that you have more energy some days? Are there certain exercises you do more easily than others? You can use this information to optimize your exercise habits and form more efficient workout routines.

Pick things you will enjoy doing. You aren’t likely to stick to a fitness routine that you absolutely loathe. Don’t force yourself to do things you don’t enjoy. If you like hiking, go hiking. If you enjoy swimming, go swimming. Exercise doesn’t need to be boring and repetitive.

With enough time and effort, anyone can get into shape. It will give you added confidence and greatly improve your health. You might even find out that it is something you have fun doing.
