Getting in Shape Without the Gym

Everyone wants to be fit and healthy. Unfortunately, however, some people can’t afford to go to the gym or simply don’t have the time. Luckily enough, it is possible for you to work on your fitness from home and see some of the same results you would see from the gym! All you need to do is to know some information before you get started, and that’s what this article provides.

First, get yourself ready mentally. Commit to getting fit and make a decision to do it as soon as today. Give yourself a few goals so that you will have something to aim for. Make sure your goals are realistic, so that you are more likely to meet them. After you have your goals in place, set your schedule. Make it known that your exercise schedule is important and will not be tampered with.

2. Get support in place. If you can count on your family to support you, that is great and puts you ahead of the pack. If you are like some people and cannot count on family participation or support for whatever reason, there are support groups you can join that will help keep you on track and give you the support you need.

3. Get a collection of exercises you must do. The internet has provided such a great way for you to do this. Just do a few searches for exercises you can do at home, focusing on cardiovascular workouts and strength training. You will find that many of the exercises you are familiar with, but there will be a few you don’t know. Try different exercises to see what works best for you.

4. Change the location of your workouts. It can get boring to do things the same way all the time. You might learn that you do better when you have a change of scenery. Try exercising in the living room one day, and try the kitchen the next day. If you are feeling up to it, take your exercise routine out to your back yard. Of course, ultimately you might decide you prefer one space, and that is fine too.

5. Think about exercising with friends. Many people prefer to exercise alone, feeling that they don’t look their best during exercise, but having a friend around can break the monotony of exercise and help keep you motivated. Consider having a friend come over to watch a new fitness dvd or to go through your workout with you, and you might find you like it.

6. Don’t forget about your diet. No matter what exercises you are doing, you need to fuel your body properly. If you are exercising, you may find that you are hungrier than usual. Make sure you know what your caloric intake should be so that you don’t sabotage yourself into more calories you need.
