How To Keep Your Kids Active

Obesity in children is becoming a growing problem. If we do not step in and do something for this generation of children, chances are they will become overweight adults. Children and adults who are overweight are at a higher risk for many diseases and other problems. By being active, a child will lose weight, become healthier and be happier. Children need to have fun when they exercise. Show them fun things to do that are active. Do enjoyable things with them so their exercise time is fun. You can play tag, jump on the trampoline or play a fun sport. As long as their heart rate goes up and stays that way, any physical activity can be considered exercise.

Every child should get at least 30 minutes of exercise every single day. It does not have to be a set routine. If they are outside playing with their friends and running around, this can be considered exercise. If you have a hard time getting your child to move around for 30 minutes, you may have to encourage him, or go outside and play with them to get them moving.

If possible, walk to wherever you are going. Walking is a great exercise for anyone, and the more you and your child get out and walk, the better you will feel.

If you have a pet dog, have your child go outside and take him for a walk. Most dogs love to go for a walk, and it is good exercise for both your child and your pet. If you don’t feel comfortable with your child going alone, go with him and get some good exercise yourself.

Give your child chores that will keep him active. A lot of chores out in the yard are good exercise. He or she can rake the yard, mow, or pick up sticks out of the yard. With a little creativity, you can find many different chores for your child to do that can be considered exercise.

Show your child how important exercise is by exercising yourself. If your child sees you exercising, chances are he will be more likely to realize the importance of it.

Make exercise a family affair. There are many ways you and your family can get active together. Go outside and play a family friendly game of soccer, baseball, basketball, kickball or any game you can think of. You can also ride bikes together as a family. Visit a park and go on a hike together to have a fun time and exercise as well. Exercising as a family is not only fun and good for you, it is also a great way to spend time together.
