In this day and age, being slim has become so important that we often forget that every living being needs nutritious food to survive and thrive. The media often tries to convince us that we should feel guilty about eating at all or that we should eat only contrived foods to be as slim as possible. The fact of the matter is, the best way to stay healthy and strong and of the proper weight and body shape to suit your frame is to eat a well balanced diet of nutritious whole foods. Not only is this the healthiest way to live, it is quite affordable and easy to do.

Choosing nutritious foods is easy! In the first place, you should eat only food. Don’t eat artificial ingredients. Don’t eat artificial sweeteners. Don’t drink artificial drinks. Don’t eat anything blue other than blueberries. You are far better off eating whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and lean meats, fish, poultry or non-meat protein source in satisfying helpings than eating any amount of artificially contrived food substitute. So just remember when choosing nutritious foods, keep it real.

Today there are all kinds of diets for all kinds of body types; however, more often than not these specialized diets are simply gimmicks to get you to buy a product. Healthful eating consists of generous helpings of fresh wholesome fruits and vegetables along with moderate portions of whole grains and lean protein sources. Add lots of fresh pure filtered water and healthful herbal teas and natural juices to that equation, and you have a diet that is right for every body type.

You may have heard that it’s important to avoid carbohydrates at all costs; however, this is not true. We need complex carbohydrates for a steady supply of energy. The carbohydrates that should be avoided are simple carbohydrates, such as those found in processed foods, sugar, refined grains, white flour, white rice and so on. If you make a 1/4 of your diet whole grains such as brown rice, whole wheat bread, whole grain cereals, old fashioned oatmeal and that sort of thing, you will get the right amount of the right kind of carbohydrates.

Of course, diet is not the only thing you must keep in mind if you wish to be fit and healthy. Every body needs regular light-to-moderate exercise. While it is certainly optimum to get vigorous exercise for half an hour at a time several times a week, it is not always possible. You can make a big difference in your overall health and fitness by walking and cycling as often as possible to get to and from work, school and shopping. Exercise that does not take up a lot of space, such as yoga, can be practiced for 15 minutes to half an hour upon arising and before going to bed. The important thing is to choose exercise that is easy to fit into your lifestyle so that you will do it frequently and regularly.

The most important thing to know about nutrition and dieting is that dieting is bad for your nutrition levels. Dieting is also unnecessary. No matter what size you are now, whether you are overweight or underweight, adopting a healthful, lifelong eating style consisting of satisfying portions of whole foods will help you attain an appropriate level of fitness. Adding exercise to your daily life will do you world of good in becoming the best and healthiest you possible.
